Faced with a vast site of 2.5 hectares, we aim to challenge the traditional monolithic community center, which expresses the idea of "community" through a singular form. In contrast, without predetermining its expression, the design accommodates activities within 22 boxes, dissolving the monumental scale of the site. You will no longer enter a single "community center"; instead, it will be a community and the center of the neighborhood.

Six big brass cubes stand in a row on the floor with identical spaces between them. Immediately the ideas of repetition and manufacture arise: they are an industrial unit that the artist repeats. Without the bases or plinths of traditional sculpture they appear naked and exposed. ‘Literalist’ was a term applied at the time of their making, to emphasise the work of art’s existence as a made physical object.’

It is evident that Mr. Chang recognized the value of establishing and using rules and systems as guidelines for campus design. However, instead of treating these rules merely as guidance, he crossed the boundary between architectural design and urban design, becoming confused about the distinction between the two disciplines. The result of this misunderstanding is an unfortunately poor and gloomy urban environment. This demonstrates that the difference between a good and bad urban environment lies not only in a well-designed system but also in a deeper understanding of the underlying concepts and, at times, a measure of self-restraint.
